Political leaders, MEPs and former MEPs – including Josep Borrell, former EU High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission and former President of the European Parliament; Guy Verhofstadt, former Belgian Prime Minister and former MEP; Pascal Smet, former Flemish minister and member of the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region; Jordi Xuclà, former MP; Raquel García Hermida-Van der Walle, MEP (Renew Europe); Andrea Wechsler, MEP (EPP); Anna Strolenberg, Member of the European Parliament (Greens/EFA), Benedetta Scuderi, Member of the European Parliament (Greens/EFA) – academics – Eric Pestel, political analyst and adviser to the president of the Jean Monnet Association, Francisco Aldecoa Luzarraga, professor emeritus at the Complutense University of Madrid and president of the European Movement in Spain, Roberto Castaldi, director of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, Mariola Urrea, professor at the University of La Rioja – and representatives of the European federalist movement – Moritz Hergl, President of the Young European Federalists (JEF Europe).

Mathilde Baudouin, Secretary-General of the Union of European Federalists, and Stefano Spoltore, President of the Altiero Spinelli Institute for Federalist Studies, will meet on the island where the Ventotene Manifesto was drafted.
Participants will discuss current political developments, the challenges facing European democracy and the priorities for advancing the political unification of Europe.


The meeting will result in the discussion, adoption and signing of the Ventotene Declaration.

The event is being held under the patronage of the Municipality of Ventotene and in collaboration with the Altiero Spinelli Institute of Federalist Studies and the Jean Monnet fEUture Centre of Excellence at eCampus University.
