Born on 27<\/a> March<\/a> 1944<\/a> \u00e0 Madrid<\/a>is a politician<\/a> Spanish<\/a>member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party<\/a> (PSOE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After being the first Minister of Transport<\/a> from Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a>between 1982<\/a> and 1985<\/a>He was elected Member of the European Parliament<\/a> in 1987<\/a>and then President of the European Parliament<\/a> two years later. In 1999<\/a>he took over the presidency of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament<\/a>which he retained for five years, retiring from politics in 2009<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Training and professional activity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

He holds a license<\/a> in right<\/a> of theUniversidad Complutense de Madrid<\/a>and in business administration at the Institut catholique d'administration et de direction des entreprises (Icade<\/a>) and the\u00c9cole sup\u00e9rieure des sciences \u00e9conomiques et commerciales<\/a> (ESSEC) of Paris<\/a>. The beginnings<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Active member of May 68<\/a>He belonged to the Socialist Convergence of Madrid<\/a> (CSM) and was even one of the leaders of the Federation of Socialist Parties<\/a> (FPS) in the early days of the democratic transition<\/a>. Re-elected in 1979<\/a>and then in 1982<\/a>Enrique Bar\u00f3n is appointed Minister of Transport, Tourism and Communications<\/a> the 2<\/a> December<\/a> 1982<\/a>at the age of 38.
