In&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1967\">1967<\/a>She left the CNRS to become a professor at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sorbonne\">Sorbonne<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is successively director of the history department of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Facult%C3%A9_de_lettres_de_Paris\">Faculty of Arts, Paris<\/a><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=H%C3%A9l%C3%A8ne_Ahrweiler&amp;oldid=192775135#cite_note-3\">3<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1969\">1969<\/a>\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1970\">1970<\/a>), co-founder and first vice-president (<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1970\">1970<\/a>\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1973\">1973<\/a>) and then President (<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1976\">1976<\/a>\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1981\">1981<\/a>) of the<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Universit%C3%A9_de_Paris_I\">University of Paris I<\/a>&nbsp;(Panth\u00e9on-Sorbonne). In&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1982\">1982<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fran%C3%A7ois_Mitterrand\">Fran\u00e7ois Mitterrand<\/a>&nbsp;calls it&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Recteur_d%27acad%C3%A9mie\">rector<\/a>&nbsp;of the Paris Academy, Chancellor of the Universities of Paris. She held this position until&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1989\">1989<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 1989, H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Ahrweiler was appointed President of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Centre_national_d%27art_et_de_culture_Georges-Pompidou\">Centre national d'art et de culture Georges-Pompidou<\/a>where she succeeds&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jean_Maheu\">Jean Maheu<\/a><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=H%C3%A9l%C3%A8ne_Ahrweiler&amp;oldid=192775135#cite_note-4\">4<\/a><\/sup>.
